Season 2008-09 was a typically roller-coaster one for the Albion. We sadly lost Micky Adams, but he proved an old football adage probably better than Kevin Keegan did at Newcastle: “Never return to your old club if your first spell was successful”
With Micky gone we looked odds-on for the drop, Paul Ince was wooed and decided not to bother (phew! lucky escape in my humble opinion), then Russell Slade stepped up to the plate and those one or two old canny heads in the crowd at Withdean thought we had the right man. I wasn’t sure, but when we tanked his old club Yeovil 5-0 soon after, I was firmly on the Slade Express.

I took these pics on a wet and cold Tuesday, 24th February this year, a time when we were deep in the shit and playing like two different teams at different fixtures (we had just beaten Millwall 0-1 at their place on the 21st and then got chinned 0-4 by Crewe the following Saturday).
This game ended 1-1 against Northampton, we should have won, I was nursing a bad back, and we got soaked on Withdean’s horrible open stands – I loved every minute of it!
